When I was doing some research on the Navitimer, I came across the Sinn 903. Apparently, the Sinn 903 is very much the same watch as the Navitimer, as Sinn bought the rights from Brietling when Breitling was in bankruptcy. I had heard somewhere that when Breitling went into meltdown back in the day, they sold rights for the Navitimer design to Sinn and at least one other maker I know of, Aviation. Apparently it wasn't exclusive rights. When Breitling when bankrupt, Sinn purchased the rights to reproduce the design and released the Sinn 903, which is essentially the Navitimer, but w/o the branding. For those folks looking to enjoy a smaller and more affordable .
During the Quartz Crisis in the 1970s, Breitling fell on hard times like many other Swiss watch brands and was forced to sell off some of its assets. Those assets included the design of its iconic Navitimer, the rights of which were sold to Sinn to produce its own version. At some point Breitling was in the verge of going bust. Sinn approached them and acquired the rights of the Navitimer. I think that this was during the 70s. A lot of people think that the design is a rip off but this is not the case. Personally I would like to trade in my Sinn for a 43mm Navitimer, I can't live with the bezel, time and chronograph compromises, it is my first disappointing watch purchase. Update: had the watch returned to Sinn, it stopped working entirely.
