I'm a big Omega fan, but for me, the Submariner wins it hands down. Never really been a fan of the bezel style or the size/thickness of the Planet Ocean, and the Submariner is so iconic and classic that you can't go wrong.
The 8500 is the perfect balance for me as I like the more modern tech a d ceramic bezel and prefer the more muted gray bezel and matte dial. The 8900's are nice but I think they went way too glossy trying to make it look like a Sub.
The Rolex Submariner and Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean both have a ceramic bezel, wherein the past both watches used aluminium inlays. These would tend to fade a bit when exposes to sunlight for a long period and were easy to scratch or damage.
Hi all, I'm relatively new to the watch world, but I have decided to start saving up for my first high-end sports watch. The two I'm debating between are the Omega Seamaster PO with the 8500 Caliber movement, or the Rolex Submariner 116610. I was hoping, before I made this big purchase, I would. I have a 42mm black ceramic bezel Planet Ocean. I was thinking of buying an orange bezel to change up the look. Are there any reasons why I couldn't swap the bezels? My only concern is that the orange bezel is stainless steel instead of ceramic. According to ofri.com both bezels fit the same case. It's definitely thick, even thicker than my Seiko Prospex divers which I thought were big. However, I just love the look of this one. While I like how understated the watch is, I'm tempted to see if the bezel insert can be swapped for the orange. Has anyone tried a bezel insert sway? I understand that the old one my be destroyed in the process I like the smaller bezel better - and now the 45.5 looks like the former 42 (or maybe I never looked at the old). And the layout of the ceramic bezel is much more aesthetically pleasing as well - the matte finish looks so much nicer than the old shiny aluminum one.

I find the fit & finish quality to be equal between the Omega and Rolex, and impressively, both watches are dead-nuts-on accurate (like, within a couple seconds per week). One surprise is that I found the Omega bracelet to be superior to Rolex. If tech spec is your forte then go for the 8500 but allow me to offer the ownership experience with the rolex, unlike the coax you can service most modern rolex in all corner of the world, you are not lock down by oem only service.
