Congratulations on owning and wearing your watch for so long which is seldom seen today, but please remove the case back sticker and if possible think about getting your watch serviced. Picture below of my own working tool watch 16600 SD watch worn almost daily for over 20 years.Model#: 16610 Serial# : F Serial (2004) Condition : Excellent Case Size: 40mm Material : Stainless Steel Dial: Black Bracelet: Oyster Bracelet Accessories: None Wrist Size: 7 1/4" . In several post I have read were some Rolex owners seem to have a real issue when it comes to removing a case back. Some don't. We have to remove them for engraving, regulation and repair. I very much enjoy clear case backs. In fact, most of my watches have them. However, Rolex is a work hard, play hard type of watch and it's much more appropriate for a solid back. If you're interested in a clear case back there are many other brands that offer beautiful movements for you to enjoy. May be possible that both models use the Sam case back as both have stainless steel cases, just different bezels and crowns. If not the case then the case back was swapped at some time _____ I had a question about my 16610 flip lock clasp. The bracelet is a 93250 model. I recently got the watch sized and notice the latch that locks the buckle/bracelet in place was a little loose (when closed the top latch would rattle a little). i seen a couple on this forum on the speedmasters before, just can't find it now. not sure if they are from omega or aftermarket back case. They are genuie Omegas, some of their models come with the clear case back.
The differences on the PM cases (other than the YG on Oyster as Devildog mentioned above) are the symmetrical lugs and larger crown guards with 0.25mm wider cases. The PM cases aren't 1.4mm larger as you mention. I can't believe Rolex doesn't make a clear case back option to show off the movement. They may have made one as an option back around 1964.then, like all great ideas it was over-ruled by some bean counter.
